FedEx – First completed MCCC Facility
FedEx opened its 50,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art distribution center in October 2009. The facility employs 90 employees and contractors. It is equipped with 28 service doors on an eight-acre site that will help FedEx meet its capacity needs while serving Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.
Home Depot Rapid Deployment Center
The Home Depot® Rapid Deployment Center opened its 465,000 sq. ft. distribution center in early 2011 and created more than 230 new jobs. The $30.5 million facility will serve company stores in the Pacific Northwest.
The Home Depot facility is a 1/4-mile long with loading docks on both sides and ends. A conveyor system operates inside the building receiving products from supplier trucks on one side and then distributing them to Home Depot trucks on the other side. The building can handle an estimated 250 trucks, 24 hours a day, every day. No product will remain in the building for more than 24 hours which means there is no warehousing.
“We were able to reinvent our logistics chain for the Pacific Northwest here in Salem, Oregon, from selecting the site to being fully operational in 18 months to where we are today. Salem has an awesome demographic for our staffing, and to date we have experienced the lowest attrition rate in the company.”
Chris Spera, General Manager, Salem Home Depot Rapid Deployment Center
“The existing occupants of Mill Creek were a test of our streamlined process for build-to-suit occupancy. They were more than pleased with end results. Over the past few years we have been able to benchmark their increased efficiencies and the benefits of our transportation hub.”
Doug Rux, Urban Development Assistant Director, City of Salem Oregon
